LOOK OF THE WORLD PAGEANT® 2009 Policies, Rules & Regulations, Requirements ELIGIBILITY & ACCEPTANCE: Look of the World: Delegate may be single, married, or divorced. Delegate may have children. Delegate must be 17 years of age by November 15, 2008. Delegate must be under the age of 35 as of November 15, 2008. Official Language. English is the official language of the Look of the World Pageant®. It is not a requirement for delegates to speak English. Delegates who do not speak English must provide their own interpreter during all pageant events. DRP is not responsible for providing an interpreter for delegates who do not speak or understand the English language. Preliminary Pageants: If a preliminary pageant is held for which entrant qualifies, entrant must first participate in the preliminary pageant before applying to enter the Look of the World Pageant® as an at-large delegate unless special conditions are met (ref. “At-Large” Entry / Title Representation section below). Preliminary pageant entrant agrees to look solely to the preliminary Pageant Director with respect to all matters relating to her application, rules, regulations, policies, preparation, rehearsal, performance and selection process, and all other matters relating to the preliminary pageant. DRP, its officers, directors, agents and employees are not liable to entrant for anything whatsoever in connection with the preliminary pageant. Entrant agrees to attend the Look of the World Pageant® if selected as the winner in a preliminary pageant and further abide by all the required services, rules and regulations governing this pageant. Winners of preliminary pageants are not eligible to re-compete in the same division at the same preliminary pageant but may re-enter once their status changes such that they become eligible for a different division. Winners of preliminary pageants may re-enter the international pageant as an at-large delegate once they have fulfilled their obligations as specified by the rules and regulations of the preliminary pageant. Participants of preliminary pageants who are not named as the winning titleholder(s) may apply to become an at-large delegate following the conclusion of the preliminary pageant. “At-Large” Entry / Title Representation: “At-large” refers to the status of any delegate who enters the Look of the World Pageant® directly at the international level without first winning a preliminary pageant. Entrants may apply directly to the international pageant as an “at-large” delegate under the following conditions: • If no preliminary pageant is offered for which entrant qualifies • If preliminary pageant director has waived the participation prerequisite as part of the preliminary pageant affiliation agreement • If preliminary pageant director has agreed to entrant’s participation as an at-large delegate due to special circumstances • If entrant has fulfilled the preliminary pageant participation requirement and did not emerge as the preliminary pageant winner Delegates compete equally at the international pageant regardless of status as a preliminary winner or at-large delegate and regardless of title representation. Eligibility for at-large country, regional, cultural, state and city titles is determined by meeting at least one of the following criteria: • Current or prior residency in the country, region, state, city • Current or prior employment in the country, region, state, city • Current or prior student status in the country, region, state, city • Current or prior property owner in the country, region, state, city • Born in the country, region, state, city • 25% cultural heritage for cultural / country titles At-large applicants are asked to rank order their top three title choices. Upon receipt of required deposit, at-large applicant is placed into “pending” status regarding title assignment. At-large applicant may make payments or may make payment in full at the time of application. At-large titles are assigned upon receipt of paperwork, photo(s) and payment in full of required fees. If two applicants apply for the same title, the title will be awarded to the first applicant who makes payment in full, regardless of when the initial applications were filed. The other applicant will be assigned another available title for which they qualify upon receipt of payment in full. DRP retains full and ultimate authority for any and all decisions regarding assignment of titles to at-large delegates for representation associated with the Look of the World Pageant®. Titles commence upon receipt of written notification from DRP and expire at the end of the calendar year during which the Look of the World Pageant® is held. DRP retains the right to reserve any title for any reason and to award titles in reserve status to at-large delegates based upon criteria established by DRP (e.g., “U.S.” national titles and North American continental titles will be offered to runners-up from the previous year’s international finals before being released to the general public for representation.) Entrant agrees to attend the Look of the World Pageant® once confirmed as an “at-large” delegate and further to abide by all the required services, rules and regulations governing this pageant. At large delegate agrees to look solely to DRP with respect to all matters relating to the application, the preparation, rehearsal, performance and selection process and all other matters relating to this pageant. DRP retains the right to assign titles to at-large delegates at any time for upcoming Look of the World Pageants® (i.e., a 2005 at-large state titleholder may be assigned during the 2004 calendar year, even if the title is being held contemporaneously by a 2004 at-large delegate) Returning Delegates: Former winners of the titles Look of the World®, and Mr. World Look® are not eligible to compete in the same division but may re-enter once their status changes such that they become eligible for a different division. At large delegates may re-enter the international pageant from year to year. Winners of preliminary pageants are not eligible to re-compete in the same division at the same preliminary pageant but may re-enter once their status changes such that they become eligible for a different division. Winners of preliminary pageants may re-enter the international pageant as an at-large delegate in the same division. Commercial Tie-Up: Entrant may have a modeling, commercial tie-up, personal management and/or agency contract, which contract however does not include, authorize or permit the use of the name of the Look of the World Pageant® or any other registered trademark or tradename of DRP or any title designation or reference with respect to the pageant in any manner. Eligibility / Acceptance Determination Agreement: All issues as to eligibility shall be determined solely and exclusively by DRP. Entrant agrees to abide by eligibility determination both as to herself and others. Entrant agrees to produce an original copy of her birth certificate to verify age and gender upon request. DRP reserves the right to refuse entry into the Look of the World Pageant® to anyone for any reason. COMPETITION JUDGING Opening Number. The Look of the World Pageant® will include a choreographed opening number. Delegates must provide their own attire for opening number as specified by DRP. The opening number is not judged. Scoring: Scoring is based on the preferential balloting system. Areas of Competition: The competition will consist of three equally weighted categories: Interview, Swimsuit, Evening Gown. The highest composite scores will determine the finalists. Finalists will answer a question. Interview Look of the World® titleholders must be articulate with excellent social and conversational skills. Titleholders must be able to express themselves clearly, diplomatically, and must project a pleasant personality at all times. Competition details: • Interviews are conducted panel style. “Panel style” is similar to a press conference. • Delegate will introduce herself and field questions posed by the panel while standing at a podium at the front of the interview room. • The interview focuses primarily on delegates' personal information (e.g., hobbies, ambition, etc.) but may include opinion questions that require general knowledge of social and current events. • Delegates should wear a dress, cocktail suit, or pantsuit for the interview competition. • Judging criteria: conversational skill, personality, demeanor, beauty, grooming, and fashion sense. Swimsuit Look of the World® titleholders must be physically fit, with good muscle tone and body proportion. Look of the World® titleholders must carry themselves with confidence and grace. Competition details: • Delegates will model a 1-piece or 2-piece swimsuit of her own choice • Swimsuit may have cut-outs, mesh, and/or embellishments • Delegates must also bring a matching fabric scarf / sarong to model with swimsuit. May be made of any fabric but chiffon or organza are recommended. Scarf / Sarong may be a solid color or a print. Scarf / Sarong does not have to be the same color as the swimsuit - may be a complementary color. The scarf / sarong should be approximately 3' wide and 5'-6' in length. Very short or small sarongs (e.g., the kind the tie at the waist) are not recommended. • Swimsuit must be in good taste. • No thongs or rios allowed • A solid color swimsuit is recommended. • Shoes with heels of at least 2” are required • Shoes must be neutral (e.g., acrylic, taupe, skin-tone) • No hose may be worn • Judging criteria: fitness, modeling, personality, beauty, grooming and fashion sense. Evening Gown Look of the World® titleholders must carry themselves with dignity, grace, poise and elegance. Judges are not evaluating the cost or designer label of the gown, but rather how well it suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as delegate's on-stage presentation. Competition details: • Evening gown must be floor length. • Judging criteria: modeling, personality, beauty, grooming and fashion sense. Policy regarding ties: The following procedure is used to break ties at all levels: The judges Chairperson will receive a ballot with the detailsof the tie. He/She will then break the tie. In the absence of ties, judges Chairperson ballot carries equal weight. Judges: A minimum of 3 judges will evaluate delegates in the areas of competition described above. DRP has sole discretion and complete authority to select judges. Reasonable efforts are made to secure a culturally and professionally diverse panel of judges. Judges' names are not released to delegates prior to arrival at the pageant. Delegates may not approach the judges or engage in conversation with judges prior to or during the competition. Delegates who are observed approaching a judge or engage in conversation with a judge beyond a brief greeting risk immediate disqualification at the discretion of DRP Judges are provided with training and instruction regarding balloting procedures prior to the competition. Judges are expected to sign an Oath of Ethics. A copy of this document will be made available to delegates prior to the pageant. The decision of the judges is final and not contestable for any reason. Scoresheets / Feedback: Delegates may request their scores by using a form provided by DRP. Scores, analysis, and guidelines for interpretation are mailed to delegates 4-6 weeks following the pageant date. Under no circumstances will delegates have the right to view anyone's scores but their own. DRP respects each individual delegate's right to privacy and confidentiality. The master tabulator's sheet is not made public. ENTRY FEE / PAYMENTS An entry fee is required to enter the Look of the World Pageant® as an at-large delegate. Delegate may seek sponsors or may pay the entry fee herself. All sponsors are recognized in the Look of the World Pageant® program book at no charge. Payment may be made by personal check, money order, or credit card via PayPal. Delegates may make payments toward the total entry fee. Payments of any amount must be made at least every 30 days until the total fee is received. Failure to remit payment every 30 days may result in loss of title and fees paid. Delegate's title will be assigned and her crown and sash will be ordered after payment has been received in full by DRP Please see “At-Large Delegates / Title Representation for details regarding title assignment. The Look of the World Pageant® is self-supporting and relies solely upon entry fees to cover production expenses. Production expenses include but are not limited to: advertising, hotel rentals, theater rentals, performers’ fees, judges' expenses, staging, supplies, prizes, awards, etc. A significant percentage of the entry fee is directed back to each delegate in the form of crown, sash, meals, entertainment, parties, gifts, and prizes. Entry fee includes: • Eligibility for all prizes and awards (no hidden competition fees) • Hotel Accomodations • Competition sash • Delegates’ Handbook • Official documents including cover letters and press releases • Sightseeing excursion • One copy of the Official Pageant Magazine • Gifts, awards, prizes Entry fee does not include: • Travel expenses & meals • Competition and Opening Number wardrobe • Program book ads (optional) • Personal expenses Refund Policy All fees paid to DRP are NOT REFUNDABLE and NOT TRANSFERABLE in full or in part for under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to entry fees, advertising fees, pageant admission ticket sales fees, guest meal fees and any other fees paid to DRP by anyone including, but not limited to, delegates, sponsors, and advertisers. DEADLINES The entry deadline is posted on the Look of the World Pageant® website. Entry fees must be paid in full by the entry deadline. Preliminary pageants must be concluded by the entry deadline. There will be no exceptions under any circumstances. All required delegate paperwork (e.g., Biographical Information Form, etc.) must be complete and received by DRP by the paperwork deadline which is posted on the Look of the World Pageant® website Required photo for the Official Pageant Magazine must be received by the deadline which is posted on the Look of the World Pageant® website All deadlines are strictly enforced and must be adhered to by entrant and preliminary pageant directors. Entrant (and director, if applicable) understands and agrees to the following penalty for late submission of required items, including paperwork, photography and full payment of fees by posted deadlines: A total of 1 point per day per late item is deducted from delegate’s total score. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Photography. Entrant must submit a headshot photo for the Look of the World website, a photo for the Official Pageant Magazine. Photos may be emailed or sent via traditional mail service. Attire. Delegates provide their own competition and opening number attire. Wardrobe requirements will be posted on the pageant website. Travel. Delegates must make their own travel arrangements. DRP is not responsible for arranging international travel or intervening / resolving disputes involving international travel to the United States of America for the pageant competition. DRP will provide entrant with a statement of acceptance into the pageant that verifies delegate status when attaining necessary travel documents. Hotel. Delegates are required to stay at the host hotel. Delegates will be two to a room. Friends and families must make their own hotel reservations. Minors. Delegates who are under 18 years of age as of the pageant date must be accompanied by an adult. DRP assumes no responsibility for minors. CODE OF CONDUCT Entrant affirms that she is and will continue to be a person of good moral character; that she has not committed and will not commit any act inconsistent with the highest standards of public morals and conventions or that will reflect unfavorably on the pageant, its representatives, sponsors and/or licensees; that she has not appeared in nude photographs for any film or publication prior to, during the preliminary or pageant finals, or during her reign should she become a preliminary Winner, at-large delegate or Look of the World Pageant® Titleholder. Delegate will conduct herself in a courteous, professional manner at all times during the Look of the World Pageant® and while representing a Look of the World Pageant™ title. Delegate will not slander or libel other contestants, judges, DRP staff or anyone else involved with or connected to the Look of the World Pageant®. Defamatory verbal and/or written remarks against DRP and the Look of the World Pageant® will result in immediate disqualification, forfeiture of any and all prizes and awards won, and legal charges. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Disruptive behavior before, during, or after the pageant may result in disqualification, removal from the premises, and legal charges. Delegate agrees to sign a Code of Conduct statement indicating agreement to abide by the terms specified here. Failure to sign the Code of Conduct statement does not in any way release delegate from responsibility to abide by the Code of Conduct stated here. All issues related to the Code of Conduct and consequences for violation thereof shall be determined solely and exclusively by DRP Entrant agrees to accept such determinations made by DRP both as to herself and others. Participation in Look of the World Pageant® Events. Delegates are expected to be on time and present for all scheduled rehearsals and events leading up to and during the pageant finals. Delegates will lose 1 point for each unexcused missed event. In the event of illness, a delegate may be excused from attending an event. DRP President is the only individual with the authority to release a delegate from a scheduled event. International Winners’ Contract 1. If selected as a Look of the World Pageant® winner, delegate agrees to sign a contract stating agreement to arrange and make a minimum of 10 appearances throughout her year’s reign. Appearances may include but are not limited to parades; radio, television and newspaper interviews; and public appearances at events. Winners are expected to provide DRP with photos of appearances for the Look of the World Pageant® website and promotion. If delegate is unwilling to sign the contract and/or unable or unwilling to fulfill the obligations, the title won and all prizes will be awarded to the first runner up. 2. The reign of the Look of the World Pageant® winner will commence immediately after crowning and will end immediately following the crowning of their successor. 3. Look of the World Pageant® titleholders agree to make monthly contact with DRP by phone, letter, fax or e-mail. 4. Look of the World Pageant® titleholders agree to provide DRP with photocopies of articles pertaining to her reign and pictures of appearances for the pageant history scrapbook. 5. Look of the World Pageant® titleholder agrees that they will not enter any other pageant or compete for any other titles during her year’s reign without the prior written permission from DRP The Look of the World Pageant® title is the overall winners' main pageant-related priority. Winners are expected to give their time and energy to this title and this title only during their year’s reign. Permission for Look of the World Pageant® titleholders to participate in other pageants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 6. Winners may have a modeling, commercial tie-up, personal management and/or agency contract, which contract however does not include, authorize or permit the use of the name of the Look of the World Pageant®, or any other registered tradename, trademark or logo of DRP, or any title designation or reference with respect to the pageant in any manner. 7. International winners agree to attend the next year’s pageant to crown their successors. Winners’ travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be arranged for and paid by DRP STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING AND AGREEMENT: Publicity and Promotion. By virtue of participation in the Look of the World Pageant®, delegate agrees to allow DRP the right to use her name, likeness, voice and/or biographical information for purposes of publicity and promotion now and in the future. Delegate understands that her name, likeness, voice, and/or biographical information may be used on the internet, in print advertising, press releases and merchandise related to the Look of the World Pageant® (e.g., t-shirts, tote bags, hats, other apparel, mouse pads, and other promotional materials.) Delegate agrees to release DRP from liability for any injury resulting from publicity and promotion. Delegate agrees to waive any and all compensation for use of her name, likeness, voice, and /or biographical information for purposes of publicity and promotion. Photography & Videography. Delegates and their families are permitted to take photos and video during events leading up to the on-stage pageant competition event. Videography will not be allowed during any on-stage competition events. Individuals who fail to comply with this rule will be asked to leave the venue without benefit of refund for admission ticket. Professional photography and videography will be made available by the Official Look of the World Pageant Photographer and Videographer. Disqualification / Title Relinquishment. If delegate is disqualified or relinquishes, for any reason, any title awarded to her, all prizes must be returned in full, and in condition received. If, for any reason, any of the three international winners resign or are disqualified, the 1st runner-up in the appropriate age division will assume the title and all prizes. Limitation of Liability / Responsibility a.) DRP, its officers, directors, agents and employees are not liable to entrant for anything whatsoever in connection with any preliminary pageant leading to the Look of the World Pageant®. Preliminary pageant entrant agrees to look solely to the preliminary Pageant Director with respect to all matters relating to her application, rules, regulations, policies, preparation, rehearsal, performance and selection process, and all other matters relating to the preliminary pageant. b.) DRP, its officers, employees, and pageant personnel are not responsible for accidents, injury or theft incurred at the time of the Look of the World Pageant® or travel to and from. c.) DRP is not responsible for negligence or fraud on the part of pageant sponsors, judges, or contract vendors (e.g., photographer, videographer, etc.) who may be providing products or services to delegates at the Look of the World Pageant®. d.) DRP is not responsible for negligence or fraud on the part of the host hotel. e.) DRP is not responsible for arranging international travel or intervening / resolving disputes surrounding international travel to the United States of America for the pageant competition. f.) DRP is not responsible for providing an interpreter for delegates who do not speak or understand English. g.) DRP is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage caused to any and all prizes, gifts, and awards bestowed upon entrant after these items become the property of entrant. Entrant agrees to incur replacement and/or repair costs to lost, stolen, or damaged items including but not limited to: crown/tiara, sash, plaques, trophies, etc. Agreement. By submitting the entry form and fee(s) to DRP, Inc. or Director of any Preliminary Pageant leading to the Look of the World Pageant®, delegate agrees to abide by all policies, rules and regulations set forth by DRP, Inc. Participation in the Pageant® also indicates acceptance and agreement to abide by all policies, rules and regulations set forth by DRP, Inc. Delegate attests that all information submitted to DRP, Inc. is true and accurate. Falsification of information and failure to comply with the policies of DRP, Inc. may result in immediate disqualification and/or forfeiture of prizes won without benefit of refund in full or in part at the sole discretion of DRP, Inc.
